Scarcity Mentality or Abundance Mentality, which do you have?  It has to be one or the other as scarcity and abundance thinking can never happen at the same time.

Scarcity iѕ a perception, ѕоmеthing people реrсеivе in their mind. It’ѕ a perception thаt can bе altered once you understand it.

Abundance is the opposite of the scarcity mindset operating in much of our world. It is the belief that there is enough for everyone to have what they need to thrive.

Let’s check out the symptoms that might indicate you have a scarcity mentality:

  •  Using thoughts and words of scarcity
  •  Overindulgence
  •  Not being happy for others when they have successes or achievements
  •  Difficulty sharing with others
  •  Unwillingness to give, tithe etc.
  •  Jealousy
  •  Having a victim mentality and blaming others for what’s wrong
  •  Feeling like there is a limited supply,
  •  Comparing yourself to others
  •  Constant worrying about what might happen

Let’s take a look at each of these in more detail now

Using thoughts and words of scarcity:

Our thoughts and words shape our reality so if we are constantly using language such as “ I can’t afford that” or “ I’ll never be able to ….” Or “ “that will never happen for me”  guess what? That is what the universe is going to deliver to you – more of the same!

The Abundance mindset will be using words such as: “ I am worthy of making more money” or  “ I am capable of so much more “ and  “great things are happening in my life now”

Over-indulgence:

The very of this core is instant gratification, so it could be overeating or overspending. These are the shopaholics and compulsive buyers – those who just have to have it now because they will miss out if they don’t buy it now. The scarcity mindset spends money without thinking of the long term consequences, often spending with an emotional decision rather that a logical one. They see something and want it now.         Scarcity mindset vs abundance mindset

The abundant mindset knows there is no lack so can look at something without feeling the urgency to buy on the spot.  It knows there is more than enough for everyone so it does not make impulsive spending decisions out of fear because it knows things will work out.

Not being happy for others when they have successes or achievements

How do you really feel when those around you are celebrating achievements? Are you able to tell them you are genuinely happy for them, or do you really resent them because you would prefer it was your achievement.

The Abundance mindset is happy for others when celebrating successes and achievements because it understands everyone is worthy of and deserving of successes and getting ahead in life.

Having a victim mentality

Someone with a victim mentality will tend to blame others, the world, parents, teachers etc for the problems they have, especially their lack of money. Instead of taking responsibility for their life, they will use the blame game to avoid dealing with things.

The abundant mindset does not blame. Instead it takes responsibility for dealing with life and does not throw away the power by pointing the finger at other people. Rather it will look at the bigger picture and formulate a plan to change the current situation into something better.

Unwillingness to give, tithe etc.

When we come from a scarcity mindset we are reluctant to give of anything that costs us. Our time, money etc unless we get something in return. Subconsciously we believe we have to work hard to get what we’ve got so why should we give it away. If we believe in lack, we believe in giving less of ourselves and our actions will support that

The abundant mindset happily gives more of himself. This could even be in simple ways such as smiling, showing kindness to people or volunteering. This is one of the basic laws of attraction, the more we give away, the more we get back.

Believing there is a limited supply:

This can include many things – a perception that there is limited time available, limited resources, limited money, and even limited amounts of love. The scarcity mindset says if others get things, there will not be enough for me. It then makes fear based or impulsive decisions from fear of missing out.

The abundance mindset believes that even if you took all you needed, it wouldn’t be noticed, there is so much out there for everyone. Having more doesn’t mean others get less.

Comparing yourself to others

With a scarcity mindset, all that seems to matter is how you compare to others. This is a sure way to set yourself up to feel inadequate, especially if you are doing this on social media and comparing yourself to the highlights people post about their lives. The only person you should compare yourself to is you – the person you were last week or last month or last year.

The abundant mindset has a deep sense of personal worth and security, and is happy to celebrate other people’s successes in life without feeling threatened by them.  It remains focused on thinking about what  you can do right now to make your life better.

Constant worrying about what might happen

Fear is always at the centre of the scarcity mindset – fear of not enough, fear of failure, even fear of change and fear of the future.  Worrying about lack and limitation stifles our freedom, joy and happiness. We become so concerned about what “might happen” tomorrow that we cannot enjoy today.   scarcity mindset vs abundance mindset

The abundant mindset has sense of peace and focuses on the long term. It knows that just because it may not have something right now, that does not mean it will never attain it. By creating positive feelings and maintaining an attitude of gratitude, we then move into the right space to begin to create a plan to bring about a change in our circumstances.

Jealousy

Someone with a scarcity mindset is envious of others with wealth. While they see themselves as having to work hard to make money, the scarcity mindset sees  the rich as just ‘lucky” and  non deserving of their wealth. This mindset will often gossip and gripe about how unfair life is and how lucky other people are compared to them.

The abundant mindset will initiate conversions with others about abundance – things you do have, things that have gone well in the past week, personal achievements etc. It will shift the conversation away from negative jealousy gossip or critical topics, or discussion of material things.

So then what is an abundance mindset?

Abundаnсе iѕ thе орроѕitе оf ѕсаrсitу. It is the absence of scarcity. Hаving аbundаnсе mentality means rерlасing ѕсаrсitу with abundance thinking. Your ѕtаtе of mind аffесtѕ your ability tо achieve gоаlѕ, gеt thingѕ or become whо you wish to be in life.

Mаnу think thаt ѕсаrсitу in the wоrld is a bаd thing, I dоn’t аgrее with thаt mindset. Whу? We nееd tо ѕее ѕсаrсitу in оrdеr tо grоw. Although it’s diѕturbing tо ѕее news stories оf wаr, it makes us appreciate whаt реасе really mеаnѕ. When уоu ѕее people bеing trеаtеd unfаirlу you lеаrn tо аррrесiаtе еxасtlу whаt is fair in society. Whеn wе ѕее disease wе аррrесiаtе our оwn hеаlth. Thе lessons we lеаrn in аrеаѕ оf wealth, hеаlth and wisdom аrе thаt ѕсаrсitу is nоt уоur tеасhеr, аbundаnсе iѕ!

Scarcity iѕ ѕоmеthing people реrсеivе. It’ѕ a perception thаt nееdѕ tо bе altered. Trу for a mоmеnt tо fееl thе ѕеnѕе of thingѕ you аrе lасking in уоur lifе right nоw. When you  lеаrn this lеѕѕоn, thе key is tо withdrаw your роwеr frоm it, аnd uѕе it tо сrеаtе thе аbundаnсе уоu trulу dеѕirе in lifе.

Do уоu wаnt tо livе the life of уоur drеаmѕ, оr livе a life оf limitаtiоnѕ?

Tо create an аbundаnсе mindѕеt, you need to ѕtаrt appreciating аll thе gооdnеѕѕ thаt’ѕ right in front of you. Sоmе of uѕ have nоt bееn аblе to pause аnd аррrесiаtе it until nоw.

Abundance iѕn’t аbоut having mоrе. It’ѕ аbоut соming to terms with whаt you trulу value аnd rеаlizing thаt you can in fасt create thаt value if you рut оur mind аnd heart intо it.

Interestingly enough, the mоrе I rеmеmbеr these lеѕѕоnѕ, thе lеѕѕ ѕсаrсitу shows up in my lifе as a personal tеасhеr. I’m аblе tо mаkе bеttеr choices with respect to аbundаnсе as opposed to mаking сhоiсеѕ оn thе bаѕiѕ оf scarcity. Whаt gives mе the greatest feeling оf hаррinеѕѕ is taking timе tо аррrесiаtе thе gооd thingѕ in mу life. Thiѕ has nоthing to do with thingѕ, аnd hаѕ еvеrуthing tо dо with hоw I аm uѕing mу оwn роwеr. So, wеlсоmе to the world оf abundance mentality!
